Jez Deville

Profile

Jez joined the practice in 2021 after finishing his Master’s degree at London South Bank University. He has several years of experience in office from working at Stanley Bragg Architects where he worked on a wide range of projects.

Employed as a Part 2 Architectural Assistant, he has BA (Hons) and MArch in Architecture and experience in bringing projects through planning and building regulation stages. He also has experience in producing drawings utilising Adobe Suite and Autodesk software as well as a strong knowledge of using Revit to create 3D models. He is currently building experience in running jobs through construction stages and working on completing his RIBA Part 3 to become a fully qualified Architect.

Yashpriya Gupta

Profile

Yashpriya joined the practice in 2021 after completing her Masters in Conservation of Historic Buildings from the University of Bath and attaining certification in Passive House designing the same year.

She has experience of working as an Architect in India and has worked on some of the most prestigious monuments and urban scale façade development projects in her home country. Previously employed as an intern in the Culture sector, Art Preservation Department at UNESCO and having worked for an NGO specialising in lime training, she aims to explore different facets of Conservation.

As an Architectural Assistant with a background in Heritage Conservation, Yashpriya is responsible for preparing Heritage Statements and Impact Assessments of historic buildings along with working on projects that require her to demonstrate her knowledge of architectural software.

Janaé Duporte-Clarke

Profile

Janae joined the practice in 2021 during her placement year from university. She is currently studying for her Architectural Technology degree which allows her to bring an up to date knowledge of software usage and methods to the practice.

She is familiar with using AutoCAD, Revit, Sketchup, InDesign and 3D visualisation whilst continuing to develop her design communication skills and understanding of building information modelling (BIM).

Georgina Marks

Profile

Georgina joined NJ Architects as a secretary in 2005, supporting the architects, associates and technical staff on an administration level. This role is diverse, as it requires strong secretarial and administrative skills. She is responsible for preparing tender documents and bids, as well as all copy typing, audio and fee proposals.

Richard Crosby

Profile

Richard combines creative architectural flair with solid structural understanding. Previously working in private architectural practice in Suffolk for 18 years, Richard came to architectural practice following a career in construction engineering: mostly working in London with a short spell in the far east. He combines experience in structural design and site engineering with a sensitivity for the aesthetic and an understanding of the subtle way buildings can enhance our lives.

Richard brings to the team a wealth of practical experience at all levels and a true understanding of how the broader process of building is achieved.

Scott Alexander

Profile

Scott is working towards his full qualifications as an Architect, and is currently undertaking his part 3 studies. He is capable of acting as a support lead to the Project and Senior Architects. He can develop drawings from Concept through to construction and has become an important member of the team. He works predominantly in AutoCad, but can also work with 3D visualization tools such as Sketch-up and Revit.

Elliott Jones

Profile

Elliot joined the practice in 2017 after completing his Degree in Architecture and Interior Design. Employed as an Architectural Assistant he is an engaging part of the design team specialising in construction technology, design solutions and building regulation requirements.
Working on a wide variety of projects he uses AutoCAD, Photoshop and traditional methods to produce design proposal drawings as well as 3D visualisation.

Lara Bettencourt

Profile

Lara joined the practice in 2017, she is employed as an Architectural Assistant but her background encompasses not only architecture, but interior design as well as display and exhibition design.
Lara can adapt to working on a wide variety of media, but generalises with AutoCAD, Photoshop and traditional methods to produce design proposal drawings, on a variety of projects.

Ian Rowland

Profile

Ian joined the practice in 2017, he is employed as an Architectural Technologist and takes on a lead role with the technical design, specialising in construction technology, design solutions and building regulation requirements.
Working on a wide variety of projects he uses AutoCAD, Photoshop and traditional methods to produce design proposal drawings, Ian also specialises in 3D visualisation, with Sketch-up and Revit.

Stephen Jeffery

Profile

Stephen joined the practice in 2016 as a Conservation Architect, after working for a London based Conservation practice following a short placement with Purcell. Stephen works on a variety of projects, he also oversees much of our historic building appraisals and impact assessment and has a real interest for timber framed buildings. His knowledge of conservation, helps our younger members hone their own skills. Despite this passion for older buildings Stephen also enjoys the mix of old with new and has developed some very successful schemes that use a contemporary solution within a historic context.

Anthony Tredoux

Profile

Anthony has worked for practices in London, Cambridge, Essex and Suffolk and has a wealth of practical and design experience gained over many years of working on commercial, industrial and housing projects. As a trained engineer, he has hands-on practical experience in sectors as diverse as subsea manufacturing, chemical process and installation.

Anthony has a great enthusiasm for architecture and design, with a specific interest in the restoration and re-use of historic buildings, preservation and the environment. He is a team player with a wide range of professional experience who thrives when engaging with people. He believes good communication, professionalism and commitment to client service are essential to success.

Christina Barnes

Profile

Chris recently joined the practice from a local accountancy firm, with previous experience in an architectural office. She brings strong management and interpersonal skills, combined with a wealth of knowledge in administrative processes. These qualities support our inclusive working environment where exception client service, relationships and team work matter.

Pippa Jacob

Philippa is a newly qualified architect with experience in conservation and education design. Early employment with Nicholas Jacob Architects gave her an insight into the sensitive repair and adaption of historic buildings of varying scales and status’. During her Part I and II placements she worked on projects across the education and healthcare sectors. Her university projects were driven by a sustainable ethos, a theme which was carried through to her Masters in Professional Practice.

Loriana Jaconelli

Profile

In September 2015, Loriana joined Nicholas Jacob Architects with 15 years Post Part III experience. She began her architectural career working for a medium-sized multidisciplinary practice in London, where she gained experience and knowledge delivering large public sector projects. In 2007 she joined a design-focused private practice in Inverness which specialised in conservation, residential and Listed Building work in the North of Scotland, which is where she gained a keen interest in and Conservation.

In 2014 Loriana took the role of Project Architect for the conservation and refurbishment of the Crescent and Natural Baths into an 80 bedroom, 5* luxury hotel and spa. She has worked on projects of varied scales and values during her career, including commercial and residential in both the public and private sectors, as well as experience in working with high-profile clients on challenging projects.

Justin Dean

Profile

In 2003, Justin joined NJ Architects with a BTEC HND in construction as well as a background of classical architecture, working with Quinlan Terry. As an Architectural Technologist, he has experience in producing drawings with Autodesk software from planning through to building regulation stages, as well assisting with projects on site.

Justin became an approved member of the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists in 2015, achieving MCIAT status.

Nathan Proctor

Profile

With a BTEC HND in building studies and a GNVQ in construction, Nathan joined NJ Architects in 1999. As an Architectural Technician, he is an integral part of our design team, specialising in construction technology, design solutions, product specification and building regulation requirements.

James has worked on a variety of different projects using photoshop, AutoCAD and traditional methods to produce and design detailed plans, documents and proposal drawings for statutory approvals and specifications for construction work.

Ian Alderton

Profile

Ian is a committed and dedicated team individual, using his years of architectural experience to apply an understanding of the technical requirements of a project, combined with an economic approach to planning and production. He has been involved with Listed Buildings and heritage work for a lot of his career.

Until recently, Ian was a partner with Purcell Miller Tritton in Essex, being responsible for the running of the Colchester office. In this time he worked on some of the country’s foremost heritage sites and buildings, such as West Minster Abbey, Colchester Castle and several Crown Estate properties in London. Before this, at Cecil Denny Highton/HOK Architects, he worked on many other important buildings including The Palace of Westminster, The Foreign and Commonwealth Office, the Natural History Museum and the Old Admiralty Building.

Ian is now continuing his passion for working with historic buildings with NJ Architects, broadening our scope and experience.

Ian has recently been involved with the development of the Conservation Accreditation for the Chartered Institute of Architectural Technologists and is an Accredited Member himself. This qualification is recognised by English Heritage, and The Edinburg Group ratify it as equivalent to AABC, permitting work on EH Grant projects.

Rebecca Spall

Profile

In 2004, Rebecca joined NJ Architects as an Architectural Technologist with 3 years post-degree experience, whilst in the process of gaining an MSc in Building Conservation through part-time study at Anglia Ruskin University, where she achieved a first class MSc degree in 2005.

She has always had a big interest in building conservation, having experience in working on conservation and heritage projects where she produced planning, listed building and building regulation drawings, and assisted with writing conservation specifications, reports and statements.

Following a maternity break, Rebecca now works part-time assisting the principal in the office with ecclesiastical projects. This work has enabled her to develop sound experience and knowledge of the faculty jurisdiction system, aiding Parochial Church Councils with managing grants, liasing with national amenity societies, and getting contract administration support for church repair and re-ordering projects.

Pauline Lawrance

Profile

In 2009, Pauline came to NJ Architects covering maternity leave, and has since then job-shared the Secretarial role working part time.

The role involves being the first point of contact for clients and general administrative duties: audio and copy typing and file management.

Hayley Hedges-Quinn

Profile

In 1995, Hayley qualified as a Chartered Certified Accountant and joined NJ Architects in 2007 as our in-house accountant. She is responsible for the day-to-day accounting and financial records, as well as assisting in the growth of the company and meeting their future vision.

Hugh Bunbury

Profile

Hugh is an architect with nearly thirty years’ experience of working with vernacular and historic buildings in Suffolk and further afield. Early employment with well known and respected Suffolk Architect Peter Cleverly gave him a grounding in sensitive repair and adaption of historic buildings of all scales and status, and in working creatively with clients, planning authorities, conservation officers, and other consultants. During that period he was the project architect for significant work including West Stow Hall and The Limes Hotel, Needham Market. Hugh continued in the practice of Cleverly & Jacob and was later an associate with the nationally reputed practice Purcell Miller Tritton & Partners. Alongside an understanding of traditional building forms and construction Hugh is also interested in how such buildings can be enhanced by contemporary interventions and in the creative conservation of historic buildings. Hugh is an RIBA accredited Specialist Conservation Architect.

Shaun Soanes

Profile

Shaun is a dedicated and committed professional, using his many years of experience in the architectural profession to apply a finely honed understanding of the technical requirements of a project, balanced with a sound economic approach to planning and production. Shaun has been involved with heritage work and listed buildings for much of his career, choosing to concentrate on this as a preference.

Shaun started his career with Purcell Miller Tritton, based in Colchester, Essex, working as assistant to the two Principal Partners. During this time he had the privilege of working on projects at some of the country’s foremost heritage buildings and sites, including Canterbury Cathedral, Colchester Castle, Flatford Mill and several Crown Estate properties in London.

Shaun joined Nicholas Jacob Architects when the practice was founded in 1996, where he developed his passion for working on historic buildings. He soon became an associate within the practice which gave added responsibility of managing and administering projects of all sizes; this included private domestic work as well as well as public and commercial buildings. Shaun is responsible for the team of technical staff within the practice.

James Francis

Profile

With a career in architecture beginning in 1999, James joined NJ Architects in 2015 as a Chartered Architect. James has a breadth of architectural experience from working with small local practices as well as large multinational firms, under a range of project sectors including education, leisure, transport, residential, defence and agricultural projects.

From working in small regional practice specialising in historic building, then getting experience of both the public and commercial sectors, he now brings this varied knowledge to the projects he works on in the practice.

During his time with NJ Architects, James has worked on numerous projects ranging from the strategic planning of sites for development to detailed design on substantial residential buildings. He enjoys the mix of challenges that the projects here bring and the ethos of pride in delivering an excellent quality of service from the initial concept through to the detailed design of projects that NJ Architects offer clients.

Nick takes a professional but passionate and positive approach to his work as an architect involved mainly in the field of historic buildings and their contexts over a period of 30 years, 29 of these as a principal.
