RIBA Design and Craftsmanship Award winners
We have returned from a wonderful evening at the RIBA Suffolk Design Awards where we left with 3 awards. Many contractors and consultants across the construction industry came all glammed up for the superb annual dinner and awards evening.
Pippa, our very own architect, plays an active role in RIBA Suffolk, presenting the design awards each year. RIBA Suffolk is the Suffolk branch of the Royal Institute of British Architects. They champion appreciation, promotion and understanding of Architecture through invitations to tours, lectures and seminars.
Our awards
We won a Craftsmanship Commendation for our Grade II Listed house extension in Aldeburgh for the brickwork.
The skilled, respected and versatile Architect Oliver Hill originally designed this house in the 1920s. The brickwork was originally lime washed, giving a homely architectural style. For us, the project involved demolishing the 20th Century extension and rebuilding it as two storeys identical to and merging with the original house’s construction. This was accomplished through various brick face-work repairs and an excellent standard of workmanship throughout.
Our 2 Design Commendations
We received 2 Design Commendations, 1 of which was for the extension of a Listed Suffolk Farmhouse:
The second Design Commendation was for the Red Rose Chain’s Avenue Theatre at Gippeswyk Hall in Ipswich where we collaborated with Charles Curry-Hyde LLP:
The new theatre was designed to reflect traditional Suffolk barn structures that would have originally been there in the 1500s. We thrive in taking on unique heritage projects and this is no exception.
